Liv dolls were a line of fashion dolls manufactured and released by Spin Master in 2009.
Spin Master is a well known toy company, they have been around since 1994 and had success making toys mainly aimed for boys. however, they attempted to release a toy line for girls in 2000 with Key Charm Cuties. The dolls were made to compete with Mattel’s Polly Pocket and the line failed miserably.
Spin Master released these dolls in fall of 2009. The dolls are 12 inches tall, have realistic glass eyes and lots of joint articulation, but what made the dolls special is that they have wigs. The dolls have a hole in their head and the wigs have pegs.
The original characters that were released were named Sophie, Katie, Alexis and Daniella.
The dolls normally came with an extra wig and a hair brush, but they also came with web codes that can unlock special features. To promote the dolls’ launch, Spin Master released webisodes on the website and Official Liv Youtube Channel.
In 2010, Spin Master released the second wave dolls which introduced the characters’ pet dogs. More characters were introduced like Hayden in the “School’s Out” series. And Jake in the “Making Waves” series.
In 2011, The Twist & Dance line was released, This series had a dancing feature when you move the hips up and down to make them dance. Other well known lines were also released like “Liv in Wonderland” and “Spa Makeover”.
The last Liv dolls to be released were the Getaway series, which were only released in countries like Japan and the Philippines.
After that, Spin Master discontinued the brand in 2012, due to high competition in the doll market and low sales.
The dolls have been popular among collectors because of their unique concept and their high quality. They were also known for being customizable since there were many custom Liv dolls made.
The dolls have been listed on Ebay and Amazon from $16 to $299.
